Merlot predominates in this deep-coloured, stone fruit scented wine. Fresh, vibrant and juicy this Canon-Fronsac reveals delightful clarity of flavour and harmony. Opulent and fresh this is an excellent example from a frequently underestimated appellation.

Made by Scotsman Esme Johnstone this Rose continues to take the wine world by storm. The wine is 95% Merlot and has an extraordinary intensity of fruit with the colour incredibly vibrant, almost decadently pink and the nose and palate concentrated and profoundly aromatic.

This has an earthy creamy nose, good mineral character and dark bitter
cherries to the fore, set off by a heady dash of spice. The palate is full, ripe
and generous with a robust, more austere structure in contrast and hints of
treacle and dried fruit.

Wonderful, lemon butter fruit, proving that seriously good wine can come out of Macon. This is really quite a unique style of white Burgundy and is well worth trying.

The use of oak here is very clever and produces a wine whose aromas and palate belie its youth and price. Delicious crisp fruit, fabulous structure and length.

One of the best makers of generic Chablis, Domaine Servin has all the steely, green flavours that one expects from a good Chablis, but with an extra richness to the fruit.

This is a rich but restrained first growth Chablis, traditionally made, with no wood whatsoever. Intense and elegant, it is quite delicious with shellfish, fish and white meats.

From the superb stable of Olivier Leflaive. This fine vintage is now beginning to show well with a great purity of fruit on the nose, which is racy, elegant and ripe while the palate shows a fat charming richness and excellent acidity with a seductively ripe finish - one of the best!

A truly outspoken wine, deep in colour, flamboyantly spicy, citrus and floral on the nose. Fractionally more restrained on the palate but still bursting at the seams with rich ripe mellow fruit.

Classic 'Super Tuscan' - black cherry fruit, overlaid with vanillin on the nose, whilst the palate is typical Sangiovese, rich and toasty, with the Cabernet providing smooth, ripe tannins to a long finish. A superb wine.

55 French oak barrels are used for maturation of this wine and an added complexity of flavour results. Balance of fruit and oak is very carefully controlled.

50 CRANSWICK SMITH SHIRAZ MERLOT BIN 19, South East Australia 2006 £16.00
The two varieties here are vinified separately, Merlot in old oak casks and Shiraz in stainless steel to preserve freshness. The resulting wine shows bright peppery ripe fruit complimented by a heavy dash of spice with added definition through traces of well integrated oak.

Beautifully balanced, full-bodied and richly textured, it exudes ripe fruit, both tropical and citrus and a finely tuned minerality. Oak plays only a subordinate role in this wine.
